Senior citizen cards for public transit
Often seniors are eligible for a senior citizen transit card. Medicare is offered to more than 40 million Americans and United States citizens over the age of 65 are eligible to apply for Medicare. You will need to contact the Social Security Administration’s Medicare page or visit the Medicare website for more information and to apply for your senior citizen card.
The Medicare card looks like the red, white and blue card shown here. Also, your Medicare senior citizen card will be required as proof of your Medicare health insurance. It's important that you keep this safe in the event of a medical emergency.
After applying for Medicare you should receive your senior citizen card for Medicare in the mail within roughly 30 days. If you have not received your Medicare card and it has been more than 30 days, you are welcome to call and check on your application at their toll free number: 1-800-772-1213
Restaurant discounts with a senior citizen card
The application for a Senior Citizen Transit Identification Card is often available to download from the issuer’s website or may be obtained in person at one of the issuer’s customer service locations and participating State Legislator Offices (depending upon the area). Applicants for a Senior Citizen Transit Identification Card must usually appear in person to complete the application process and is a one-time step.
Other forms of a senior citizen card are those given to senior citizens at restaurants which allow a discount to those that qualify. Seniors are appreciated at these restaurants and costs are considerably lower for meals at participating restaurants.
